The 500 cc 3 cilinder from Karel Zegers
In the mid-seventees the Dutch rider/tuner Karel Zegers gets well-known by his fast own built racers, by which he surprises the race world every time with his own developed constructions. In course of time Zegers specialized himself in tuning and building of complete racers and products. So he was many years the tuner of the Riemersma racing-team, with rider Wil Hartog. First he prepared the Yamaha TZ racers and the first Suzuki RG500 production racers, which he supplied among other things with aluminium sliders with nicasil liners. Also he prepared special single cylinders and heads for the TZ production racers, which he provided with his own porting.
After the success from Katayama with the 350cc 3-cylinder Yamaha Zegers built his own 500-3 cylinder engines for the private enthusiasts, by which he continued the Yamaha project, what was cancelled by the Japanese Factory in 1978. From any success of the engines is not much heard, but the engine construction was absolutely very interesting, elaborate on the Yamaha 350-3 from Yamaha NV.
Next story from Frits Overmars stem from Moto73 of 1978.
